Apply for a UK Credit Card Online
Apply for a credit card online - it has never been easier or quicker. However, you should make sure you shop around and apply for the right credit card rather than filling in the first online card application which arrives in your inbox or your doormat.
When you apply for a credit card online some of the main things to look out for are:
If possible, try to switch between issuers to take advantage of interest-free balance transfers which last until the transferred amount is paid off. But watch out for high APR on any purchases during and after the balance transfer or seductive introductory rates which are hiked after a couple of months.
If you think you will be a little slow to switch when the introductory period expires on your existing credit card account then apply for one with a low rate guaranteed for the life of the balance. Whichever option you choose remember that any new spend will be charged at the standard rate.
When you go on to apply with your chosen credit card provider they will perform a full credit check on you, cross-referencing your details with reference agencies. If you are turned down, or wish to make enquiries concerning your personal file, you are legally entitled to ask the reference agency for a copy of your file. You should ask the provider which agency they use and for the contact details of this agency.
The provider may still decline your application and are not required to tell you why they turned you down. Reasons may include any County Court Judgments registered against you in the past, previously declined applications for finance, defaults on payments, arrears on a mortgage, any repossession of property or previous adverse financial dealings with the company.
